Happy May Day!

Heading Into May Like...
Carrie White

It's May the first Minions, typically known as May Day. It also happens to be Monday, May Day Monday is what I'm calling it, so there!

As I emerge from a chaotic April I'm grateful to see the things settling in, some, "Yes" I am a big fan of low vibe energy, it's the best kind.

Thus I'm making like Carrie White and emerging from the wreckage into, well who knows, but I'm sure it's better than the fate that Carrie met.

Time for a pole dance!

They're All Going To Laugh At You, Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne: Have A Bloody Good Halloween!
Happy Monday and only 11 more days until Halloween! Yes!

I thought I would kick off the week with one of my favorite celebrity Halloween costumes, worn by one of my favorite celebrities.

Let's celebrate the season with one of the coolest people on the planet, Ms. Kelly Osbourne paying homage to one of my favorite movies with actors in their mid to late twenties  playing teenagers, Carrie.

That's right KO is dressed for the prom as the one and only Carrie White, with the must have accessory of the season, pig blood doused all over her beautiful dress.

Only she could have come up with such a great costume, and pull it off.

I love Kelly she is a tough woman with a mouth like a trucker and a heart of gold. Currently on Fashion Police, Kelly has come a long way since her The Osbournes days.

Kudos Kelly! Have a great week everyone!

You Will Know Her Name: "Carrie" 2013

Chloe Grace Moretz & Julianne Moore "Carrie"

"I was told I was too pretty for "Carrie" - Chloe Grace Moretz

That being stated, while some may still think that Ms. Moretz has made a career out of playing outsiders, much like her attractive Academy Award Nominated co-star Julianne Moore, so let's shove that shit theory out the window.

After all Chloe has portrayed a prepubescent expletive spewing assassin named Hit Girl in "Kick Ass" uttering such zingers as "Fuck you, c#nt" and a 12 year old vampire with a thing for a 12 year old boy in the American re-make of "Let The Right One In".

So get over the "pretty" thing and get past it, now.

When I initially heard about this project, I had some hope, I mean hey two of my favorite actresses in the leads and Directed by Kimberly Pierce of  "Boys Don't Cry" fame...I was excited! "Carrie" after all is a female story and with a strong female Director would give a quite provocative and Feminine twist on it. Translation, no gratuitous lawn scenes below the female waist, and teenagers who are not 25-30 years old.

And let's not forget bullying with updated technology.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Brian DePalma film, it's a classic for sure, but...

Margaret & Carrie White, Hitting the PR Trail
There is always something new and unique that can be done with everything in the correct hands.

With the release of the present full length trailer, I am way more cautious about the prospects of this adding anything that is truly new or necessary.

My problem? With the exception of a few twists, the scenes they show in the trailer look like an almost shot for shot remake of the original.

Please don't disappoint me and millions of other fans of the horror genre and the original. Don't let this turn out to be a piece of dreck redo like pretty much all the others.

Proceeding with caution at this point, so much so, it will have to get really good reviews to compel me to pay at the box office, if the reviews are unfavorable, I will wait for video, perhaps.

Check out the trailer and see what you think...

PS - MGM and Sony have definitely come up with a great marketing campaign, kudos.

The Horror: Liz Adams

Liz Adams: Filmmaker/Vampire

Filmmaker Liz Adams is an Award Winning Director/Writer for her controversial script for "Side Effect" which was selected to represent the American Film Institute in their prestigious Directing Workshop for Women, and is the first horror film to come out of the thirty-four year program.

She is also a hot genre director at the the film company "The Asylum" with two astute B-Movie disasters under her belt the well received "Air Collision" and "Super Cyclone".

Liz is a huge fan of Sci-Fi, Action and most importantly Horror...here with her Top 5 Horror faves of all time is Ms. Liz Adams...!

MS: Alright Liz, hit us with your 5 favorite Horror Movies and why you like them.

LA: OK, five favorite horror movies and why. You know, off the top of my head I’m going to have to go ‘old school’ – first film that comes to mind as a fave is:

Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING – I love the performances, I love the visuals, and the wonderful ambiguous cocktail of crazy and supernatural. The scene that I always wonder about is when the freezer opens to let out Jack… other than that one moment I think you could make a case for the whole thing being in his head.

MS: I love this one too, I saw it at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery one year on Halloween, for at least the tenth time.

LA: What a blast that must have been!

MS: It was!

LA: Next I think I have to go with John Carpenter’s THE THING – superb storytelling,  great performances – the ‘blood test’ scene had such a huge impact on me – I still enjoy seeing the practical effects in that movie…plus sci-fi and horror together, I love it.

MS: This is one of the few times I think a remake has been better than the original.

LA: I agree.

LA: Time to go a little off the beaten path I’m going to go with George A. Romero’s MARTIN – I love this movie because it deals with my favorite horror subject – humanity’s own violent impulses – it is a pretty obscure film about a young kid Martin… his Eastern European granduncle speaks of a family ‘curse’ and treats Martin like he is a vampire and even though he has no fangs or supernatural abilities - he begins to act like one – breaking into homes, drugging women and drinking their blood. If you haven’t seen it – check it out.

MS: I can't believe you have seen this, I love it too! Here I thought I was the only one who knew about this gem.

LA: Then, I have to go with another classic – Brian DePalma’s CARRIE – great performances and the ‘horror’ of going through adolescence and high school is relatable… I love the ending!

MS: Adolescence is a horror. The ending is awesome!

LA: To wrap it up I have to go with another combo – musical and horror and finish off with Frank Oz’s LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS – I love the music, I love the performances – who can forget Steve Martin as the Dentist, right? I love Levi Stubbs as the plant – what is not to love about this movie.

MS: Nothing. This movie is pure fun, I agree!

TV Watch: American Horror Story

Seen any good horror movies lately? I thought not, that’s because the best thing going horror wise is on FX….

“American Horror Story” rocks! It’s everything that you want your horror to be, edgy, nasty, creepy & best of all politically incorrect.

Two time Oscar Winner Jessica Lange, (one of my favorites) looks like she is having a blast, chewing the scenery as “Constance.” - with her daughter, "Adelaide" played by Jamie Brewer.

Their relationship is very “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” slash Piper Laurie & Sissy Spacek from “Carrie.”

Being a total horror geek I can completely appreciate these references shed in a new light and there are many other horror flick wink & nudges in this frightfest. It is obvious that it's creators, two guys who did one of my favorite shows ever “Nip/Tuck” Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuck, are huge horror geeks too.

The main victims, uh, family that moves into this infamous “murder house” are headed by Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott & Taissa Farmiga as the Harmon’s. The Harmon’s are a really dysfunctional lot, and that is the charm of them too, and why the “murder house” draws them in and owns them, nobody puts the “murder house” in a corner!

With so many juicy horror elements thrown in, and Zachary Quinto recently guest starring as one half of the previous 2010 couple who owned the house, hey the Harmon’s are so 2011, so, if you are true horror fan why aren’t you watching, freak?!

Really I do not want to give too much away if you have not seen it . There is one secret I could spill, perhaps…Dylan McDermott is one of the coolest guys I have ever met, oh, and beware of men in rubber suits…

“Take a look at yourself”!

Trick Or Treat: It's "Scream Queen" Raine Brown

Actress Raine Brown has done it all from drama to comedy, stage to film…

That being said, Raine is best known as one of the premiere indie horror actresses around. A “Scream Queen” if you will who has legions of followers and lights up any movie she appears in such as “100 Tears” for which she won best supporting actress at the 2008 Tabloid Witch Awards, “Barricade” & “Brain Cell.”

She also hosted “New York's Village Halloween Parade 2005” - Trick or treat, guess whose knocking at your door for Halloween…?

MS: Hey Raine..Boo! How are you? film anything that is going to make us scream this year?

RB: I’m doing great, I have done a couple of horror films and I am actually in the middle of shooting a comedy right now.

MS: Awesome!

RB: Yeah, it’s really cool, a different change of pace.

MS: So Raine, shall we get spooky? It’s Halloween…

RB: I love getting dressed up, honestly if I did not get in costume all year long, I would be so gung ho for getting into a costume for Halloween. But whenever there is an event or a party, it makes getting dressed up for Halloween a little less exciting, because I am always putting together a costume.

MS: Ah, show biz! (laughs)

RB: Halloween is actually my Mom’s Birthday too, so that’s kind of cool. We go crazy decorating the house. Everyone always gives her Halloween decorations for her Birthday - so we have plenty of stuff to use. (laughs)

MS: What is your favorite role in a horror movie?

RB: Definitely “I Heart U” …I co-created the story & the character, produced and starred in it, it was great being involved from the ground up a little bit more. It’s in post production and close to being finished.

MS: Can you tell us what it is about?

RB: It is a horror/romantic/dark comedy - it's about a husband and wife who live this perfect suburban dream. But they each have this secret life, they are both serial killers and neither one of them knows about the other. It mocks the “dream” and what is really going on underneath it all. I love that they are evil and yet you root for them, it’s a wicked little twist. (laughs)

MS: Hit us with your favorite horror movie.

RB: I’d have to say it’s “Carrie” that to me is classic. I love that it is female based, that is always of interest to me. Also I love that it is so psychological, you really feel for Carrie, it’s really, to me, honestly about her story more than it is about the blood, the blood is more of a symbol of what’s going on. Every time I see it, I think, ah, that is such a good movie.

MS: OK, Ms. Brown, time for your favorite horror movie villain.

RB: Ooooooooooooooh, my favorite horror movie villain, that’s a hard one….well the one that scared me the most, recently, and now it’s old is Jigsaw, from the original “Saw” movie. He scared me the most out of every villain that I have ever seen. That was part of that whole torture craze, and that dude scared hell out of me! I’m not sure if that makes him my favorite or not, but he got the job done! (laughs) I’m like Unnnnnnnnh, I don’t like that! (laughs)

MS: Getting the job done is half the battle, so do tell, for those not in the know, what’s it like being a “Scream Queen”?

RB: Well, it’s very messy! (laughs) You often spend the whole day covered in sticky, bloody goo! (laughs) I love the fun of it. It’s a great genre to be a part of, because the people who love horror, just LOVE IT! They follow it, and that’s been able to keep me working a lot. Fans go: Oh My God, let’s see what Raine’s doing. People hire me because they know people will watch it because I am in it. As you know the “Scream Queen” is only on part of what I do - I do every kind of film, theatre or character there is, just throw it at me, I love it! The horror is a large part of what I do, and the fans are great!

MS: Ever thought about cutting a single?

RB: I can sing, maybe I should.

MS: Any parting thoughts on Halloween.

RB: It used to be a Holiday for kids, but now it’s like, it’s time for grown-ups to get out and have fun, release your inner craziness! It’s the one day adults can be a total freak and show it on the outside! Also free chocolate just for ringing a door bell? I mean c’mon that’s the American way, I love chocolate!
