People Are People - R.I.P. Andy "Fletch" Fletcher

"Last time with Fletch - Sofia, Bulgaria in 2013. Delta Machine Tour. RIP Andy. #depechemode #andyfletcher. Devastated." - Karen Castrischer Stegall

Sad news, yesterday Andy "Fletch" Fletcher the keyboard player for the legendary Depeche Mode passed away. One of my BFF's Karen Castrischer Stegall is what you would call a Devotee. She would follow them while they were on the road from city to city, country to country.

While I am someone who was simply under the spell of their music. Indeed it was a sad day for fans of any type.

Here is the band issued statement:

I am going to leave you with a song they did back in 1984 that is more relevant now than it was then - People Are People...R.I.P. Andy

'Tis the season to be jolly...why is it merely the season? Be jolly all year round. It's more like 'tis the season to pretend we are this unattainable ideal of individuals that really have nothing to do with the reality of the human condition

Hey I'm all for being kind, but this time of year we are held to expectations that not even Helen of Troy could attain. I don't know about all of you, but I'm feeling dirty....All that matters is you give them an angle.

Michael's Musings

Pure Energy
Michael Shinafelt
Today my thoughts and well wishes are with the victims of the fires in Los Angeles. "Yes" the City of Angels is under siege by massive fires. Many people have lost their homes, it is heartbreaking. When the amazing firefighters get everything under control, the saddest part is that all roads lead to arson with regard to this tragedy. Trust me.

OK, I will veer from going down the stony end and try to be my usual provocateur self. Oh wait I already have done that. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, or can you??? Onto less weighty subjects.

Don't let anyone with bad eyebrows tell you shit about life

How about Time and their Person of the Year?

Fact: Depeche Mode sells more music than Bruno Mars and all his number one hits. This gives me hope for the future.

"It's obvious you hate me though I've done nothing wrong..." - People Are People, Depeche Mode

This lyric sums up the week and the world at present perfectly right now. I don' feel the need to extrapolate on that. If you think I should, please remove yourself from this column and go do something productive, preferably without a white hood over your head.

"When you've erupted, you're totally destructive (Don't drop bombs)" - Liza Minnelli, Don't Drop Bombs

This is what happens when you have two narcissistic DICKtators running countries, bombs are being threatened to fly in a pissing contest about who has a bigger one.

Well between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un I am 100% positive I have the biggest one. So let's have some fun shall we?

Afraid Of Clowns?

Sexy or Scary? You Decide.
Michael Shinafelt

It's October 1st my minions and you all know by now what that means, thirty more days until Halloween!!! Boo-yah!

As you can see I am not clowning around and excited for the upcoming Black Celebration. Yes I just made a reference to a Depeche Mode song that fits the season like that missing piece from a Jigsaw puzzle. (Yes, that was a Saw reference ; )

There are so many reasons to love Halloween more than Christmas. One is Satan, who is my favorite mythological beast. He gets a lot more play this time of year. Two is my favorite horror film of all time is named after it, like duh, the title is John Carpenter's Halloween. Three there is magic in the air, with no judgement calls on the source of it. Four is that Freddy Krueger will be haunting somebody's dreams that night, jamming! Need I go on? I thought not.

Cheers to the month of the macabre on Entertain Me I promise you lots of edgy & downright questionable posts from here on out. All bets are off, and no one is safe...so let's get the party started with Black Celebration below by Depeche Mode, Ghouls!

They Are "Such Good People"

We're Here, We're Good, Get Used To It: Randy Harrison & Michael Urie

"So we're different colors, And we're different creeds, And different people have different needs" - People Are People Depeche Mode

The above mentioned phrase is the best way in my opinion to surmise the funny and charming indie flick Such Good People

Starring some really good people themselves Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) as Richard Nearly and Randy Harrison (Queer As Folk) as Alex Reardon a gay couple, that's right you heard me, a gaaaaaaaay couple as the central characters of this screwball comedy.

Referring back to the Depeche Mode quote the two leads happen to be gay, them being gay is not the focus of the story and there are plenty of other characters who are not gay in the film, which is a regular melting pot of "different colors, creeds and needs."

Including Lance Bass, who was sporting blue hair at the premiere I attended in Westwood, CA, yeah I know I should have gotten a photo of that.
Feeling Blue Lance?
Luckily there is Google and I did a search and found a shot, although it is not from the premiere it is of Mr. Bass with said hair color, feast your eyes, people.

The cast also includes Carrie Wiita & James Urbaniak as Alex's conniving half sister and brother in-law Dr. Paige & Cooper Whitehead, Ph.D

Not to mention the fabulous Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty, Devious Maids) as Detective Diane Kershman. A word of caution don't F#@k with the porpoises when she is on the case.
Ana Ortiz Is On The Case
With an astute screenplay by David Michael Barrett based on a story by him and Greg Sterling.

This SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Ultra Low Budget film is one of the best examples of making movies with a shoestring amount of cash I have ever seen.

A tip and a nod to the Director, Stewart Wade for his adept insight, and keeping it real.

Such Good People is Such A Good Movie, seek it out like a missile on video.

Checking In With: Sir JET

Sir JET aka Joel Evan Tye is a pop star like no other. With his super-hero body and love for skin tight costumes and anime.

JET's childhood struggle with gender anxiety that lead him to become an agoraphobic mute for almost a decade to only rediscover his voice again at age 20 and become the man you see today.
His mission in life is to help people who struggle with their identity and to encourage them to find their true selves by going within like he did, with the release of his current EP "Shout Out  to the Lonely" it's Sir JET!

MS: Your sound has evolved since your single "Storm" which had a very retro/Depeche Mode quality to it. But you did go back to that sound with your track on your current EP "Hikari Iku (I'm Coming Home)".

SJ: It does have that retro vibe. (laughs)

MS: The track was co-written by Kimberly Locke, you said it worked out between you guys really well because she was stuck in a mode. I am not familiar with her last song, is that statement true?

SJ: Well last song was "Friendly Free" I can't remember the actual lyrics, but it's a you hurt me and I'm free of you sort of thing. It's ironic because she released the video a couple of months ago, and I thought: "This song sounds very similar we must have wrote them at the same time". (laughs) She's a lot of fun to work with, very easy going and quick witted, just like me. (laughs)

MS: "Shout Out to the Lonely" is a very inspired song, what, uh, inspired you to write it?

SJ: I wanted to create a new dance track and that's a phrase, I just kind of heard: "Shout Out to the Lonely" the song grew from the title. When I first created that song it had a very different meaning than the video, I think that's because I was bringing in different people to make the video. At first the song was about how lonely we feel in crowded places. By the time we shot the video it grew into loneliness being a drug, as much as any other kind of substance, you can take too much of it. We have to acknowledge that there are so many lonely people in the world and if we don't reach out to them it just gets worse and worse.

MS: You've had your own issues with that.

SJ: Right, and I learned from my experience that if you just keep closing in on yourself it's just going to get worse and worse. You really need to do that reaching out and find that thing that you care about. Otherwise you go down a selfish spiral, of feeling not good enough. It's amazing I see posts on my Facebook wall all the time about how lonely they are and how they need attention or a boyfriend...you break out of that struggling by finding something you passionately care about, that you can do for other people.

MS: You are also working on something called "The Marriage Equality Video Project".

SJ: It's to my song "Like God". The song is about finding the love of your life, and learning to let go of that fear of love. It came to me listening to the song that it would make a great video if the development of it was a song that leads to a wedding. Marriage Equality is a hot topic right now and I thought: "How could I use that to help the efforts"? Monetizing the video on YouTube was a way I thought could help the cause. So, that's how the idea got started, and I've been working towards it ever since. To raise the funds myself and the people behind it are going to start selling wristbands that are going to say: "Committed to Equality" on them.

MS: Oh, cool!

SJ: By wearing the wristband, you are committed to the cause like you are committed to someone you want to marry.

MS: Want to hear something about "Like God"? The song really stood out for me being a power ballad. However, while I was listening to it, I somehow accidentally hit my iTunes, and I hear this driving alternative rock sound in the background. I thought: "This doesn't sound like that song". It sounded kind of cool though, I had accidentally started playing "Head Like A Hole" by Nine Inch Nails behind it! (laughs)

SJ: Oh, my! (laughs)

MS: It sounded good, maybe you should sample that behind it sometime as a re-mix.

SJ: Not a bad idea, we could have a alternative rock wedding. (laughs)

10 Random Thoughts: Moses

With his new album “Predictions”, Moses takes listeners on a sonic journey into the mind of an adventurous young man not afraid to turn the conventional on its booty. His aim? To push buttons and change minds.

"I'm Your Man", featuring XELLE, is the first single off the album. Its dirty synth sound, heavy beat, and Moses's unique voice make "I'm Your Man" a check it don't wreck it listen. Time to get random with Moses ...!

MS: Hey Moses, how are you?

Moses: I’m good, how are you?

MS: I’m fine.

Moses: Are you in Los Angeles?

MS: You got it…shall we get random?

Moses: Let’s go..!

MS: Cross Dressing

Moses: I love cross dressing. Everyone cross dresses in one way or another. A mailman in my eyes is a cross dresser, everything in life is about cross dressing.

MS: Men

Moses: Men in general are something that we see in different variations. Men are masculine, some more on the interior and others more on the surface. What makes a man a man to me is if you do something you really love to do.

MS: Archangel

Moses: Being and looking as pure as you can and then being able to go to the other side and become a dark angel.

MS: Depeche Mode

Moses: That’s a band that I have so much respect for. I adore them and I grew up listening to them. They are an inspiration to my art.

MS: Tel Aviv

Moses: It’s a beautiful place that I grew up in.

MS: Xelle

Moses: They’re great! One of the band members is Mimi Imfurst who was featured in RuPaul’s Drag Race. I love working with them, I call them my girls. They are very fearless I need people like that around me, because I am.

MS: Unicorns

Moses: I love unicorns! It’s a fantasy, everything should be like a unicorn. Unicorn is a state of mind.

MS: “I’m Your Man”

Moses: “I’m Your Man” is who I am. It is my first exposure to the world, it introduces me. It says this is who I am, this is how I look and this is how I sound…take it or leave it.

MS: The 10 Commandments

Moses: Oh, the first one is: Thou Shall Not Stop Dancing (laughs)…I always say I have 11 commandments, because there are 11 tracks on my album. Having my own set of commandments is a lot more fun!

MS: “Predictions”

Moses: My prediction for my future is to continue making and performing music. The biggest prediction I have is I am going to perform at Madison Square Garden!
