When Pee Wee Met Grace

Grace Jones & Pee Wee Herman

Christmas time is a time for memories, I had a recollection dance in my head as I woke this morning of Grace Jones singing The Little Drummer Boy on Pee Wee Herman's Christmas Special! Yay! It sure beats a vision of sugar plumbs, for real!!!

Pee Wee's Christmas Special has always been one of my favorite things since it aired December 21, 1988 for a myriad of reasons. But Grace Jones putting her unique spin on the Drummer Boy will forever stand out to me.

Thus there you have it one of my fondest Christmas Time memories Minions. I'm sure you have some too, tis the season enjoy!

Catch the video of Grace singing Drummer Boy to Pee Wee after the jump -

Tie One On

All Hail Pee Wee Herman!

It's finally here, the day you wait for all year long! "Yes" it's finally National Bow Tie Day!!! Yay!!!

JK, you were more than likely unaware of this day at all. But it's Sunday Funday and, well it's fun so WTF not? I ask you? I asked please answer, oh well...

Here to get in on the frivolity is none other than the man, the myth and red bow tie wearer Mr. Pee Wee Herman.

Pee Wee made his red bow tie his signature and he's an icon who has lasted decades.

Thus we celebrate National Bow Tie day by honoring the King Of The Nerds.

All Hail Pee Wee!!!

Smile It's Monday, Or Not

Pee Wee Herman

Smile, it's Monday - or perhaps NOT!!! I'm feeling loopy and for some reason known exclusively to the corners of my mind. Pee Wee Herman's secret word of the day materialized in my head. Ya know straight outta Pee Wee's Playhouse?! Of course you do!

While "Moist" was never the secret word on his actual show, it's the word I'm using today via this meme because it elicits a strong negative or positive reaction.

"Yes" Minions my goal is to make you smile or not today because I feel like pushing buttons. I'm provocative that way.

Thus enjoy your Monday and my contribution to your mirth or discomfort. The choice is yours.

Tutti Frutti

My Fruitcake Brings All The Boys To The Yard...
Pee Wee Herman

Guess what today is Minions? If you haven't figured it out already it's National Fruitcake Day!

Have any of you out there had Fruitcake? I know it is real, but I have never seen one or had one during the Holiday Season. Fruitcake is like a Unicorn to me, mythical.

Anyway in honor of this unique day I am serving up nostalgia Pee Wee Herman style. Remember his Christmas Special where everyone kept giving him Fruitcake as a gift and he put them to good use by having hunky construction workers build a new wing on to the Playhouse made of mass quantities of them?

Well I do and that's what the image above is for the potentially uninitiated of you Minions.

So bend it like Pee Wee and celebrate today with one, or many Fruitcakes and please send some my way while you are at it I need to get a taste of that sometime...

Spring Has Sprung...Boing!

It's Here!
Pee Wee Herman

Of late I have been thinking about how much I miss Pee Wee's Playhouse being on the air. Yeah, I know there are ways to watch re-runs, and I do, but his presence is the perfect antidote to a lot of things happening in the world right here, right now.

Thus on the first day of Spring I thought his whimsy, fun and just flat out silliness make Pee Wee Herman the perfect poster boy to celebrate the occasion. No need to thank me you can just spank me, or???

Spring is my favorite time of year, or as Pee Wee might state: I love Spring, but I'm not going to marry it!

Spring Froward Minions, it's time!

How is everyone's Social Distancing going? SD is the word of the year, that is this week. Anyway I am using this time creatively and to try and binge watch HBO's The Outsider which I did DVR , but have yet to view.

"Yes" this is what it's come to minions, stay safe and healthy it's time for me to do my weekly thang!

Watched Ma with Octavia Spencer yesterday, I hope she got paid well...

Perhaps we should unplug 2020, wait 10 seconds and try plugging it back in to see what happens

There's still good in this world, Porn Hub is offering it's premium service free to the people of Italy

So glad I don't have children during this time. I'm sure they would try to make me learn Tik Tok dances

The plan isn't always the plan, especially when one gets punched in the mouth

Right now I am thinking: "What would Pee Wee Herman do?" it's my happy place 😊

National Card Playing Day

Four Of A Kind
Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, James Dean & Elvis Presley
Ever wonder what to do during that odd space between Christmas and New Year's where you lose track of time and more often than not forget what day it is?

Well wonder no more, while I was browsing Twitter Pee Wee Herman was so kind as to point out today is National Card Playing Day. "Yes" this is a good activity to while away the hours until the next big to do, the celebration of the 2020!

As illustrated by the popular icons above four of a kind is the hand to beat, in a Poker Match. Perhaps you care for a more basic game, like Go Fish?

Whatever your poison, play cards today, it will definitely keep you covered in the Nebulous Zone until NYE hits.

Kids In The Hall

Iconic
l-r
Kevin McDonald & Dave Foley
Remember "Kids In The Hall?" - that will date you.

Dallas VideoFest (http://videofest.org) announced today that it will honor both Kids in the Hall co-founders Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald with the coveted Ernie Kovacs Award on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Alamo Drafthouse (100 S. Central Expressway at Beltline - Richardson). Tickets can be purchased here: https://prekindle.com/event/59225-kovacs-award-richardson.

Both Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald will be in attendance to receive the Ernie Kovacs award and will be on hand for a panel discussion, a Q&A with fans and a rare screening of the iconic Kids in the Hall film BRAIN CANDY (1996). Foley and McDonald are being recognized for careers that span more than 30 years, including acting, producing and writing on television, film and stage and especially for their breakout roles playing a multitude of characters in The Kids in the Hall television series which ran from 1988-1995.

“One of the things that impressed me deeply about Ernie Kovacs was that television was a brand new medium in the fifties and he was subverting its conventions even as those conventions were being formed,” said Dave Foley of Kids in the Hall. “Ernie was way ahead of his time.”

”Ernie Kovacs has been one of my idols since I was a child so to receive an award in his name from the Dallas VideoFest is a true honor,” said Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall. “Kovacs was doing ’70s anti-comedy in the ’50s and his sense of absurdism would have been at home in a Monty Python’s Flying Circus episode. When Dave Foley and I are in Dallas on October 14, I will pretend  he is here with us - celebrating his career - because that's what this is - a celebration of Ernie Kovacs. And he deserves a lot of them."

“Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald of The Kids in the Hall are being recognized by the Dallas VideoFest for their efforts as comedy pioneers in the same vein as Ernie Kovacs,” said Bart Weiss, director of Dallas VideoFest. “Looking back at the comedy of The Kids and their other work afterward, you can see that, they, like Kovacs, saw what video and television could be and took us to that new place.”

The Ernie Kovacs Award recognizes the career and talents of some of television’s greatest visionaries. Kovacs’ work in the 1950s and early 1960s summed up the spirit of innovation and the development of the language of television as art. The Dallas Video Festival and the Video Association of Dallas announced the first Ernie Kovacs Award at the 1997 festival. Comedian Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science 3000 was the first recipient and subsequent honorees have included Terry Gilliam of Monty Python; Robert Smigel, writer/performer of Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien; Paul “Pee-wee Herman” Reubens; Martin Mull; Mike Judge; George Schlatter, creator of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In; Harry Shearer, Spinal Tap and The Simpsons; and Michael Nesmith. Actress Edie Adams (www.edieadams.com), Kovacs’ wife, came to Dallas to host the awards program annually until her death in 2008. Today, Edie’s son Joshua Mills runs Ediad Productions, the video and audio archive of both Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams.

Event Listing:
Dallas VideoFest presents the Ernie Kovacs Award to Kids in the Hall co-creators Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 14 7:30 p.m., at the Alamo Drafthouse (100 S. Central Expressway at Beltline - Richardson). Tickets:

Pee Wee Herman "Bowtie is the New Black"

Need I Say More?
I'm so excited, and, no, I'm not going to hide it...so there! This ayem while checking out the news, entertainment and otherwise I found this awesome item via Vulture online:

"The news has been rumored for a while, but now it's confirmed: Judd Apatow's long-gestating Pee-wee Herman movie is headed to Netflix, the streaming giant announced today. Pee-wee's Big Holiday will tell the story of how "a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday." It's being produced by Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens, written by Reubens and Paul Rust and directed by first-timer John Lee (Broad City). "Bowtie is the new black," said "Pee-wee" in a statement. He's on-brand already!"

Oh Hell to the yes! Pee Wees Big Adventure is one of my favorite films, I remember seeing it my freshman year of college. It was directed by first time and then unknown Tim Burton and it was pure genius!

Years later I sat next to him opening night of my friend E.G. Daily's one woman show Listen Closely, remember her as his girlfriend Dottie in his big adventure? That was so cool!

The pairing of he and Judd Apatow is genius....I'm pulling for you Pee Wee!

PS - Please put E.G. in it too.
