National Pizza Day

Woofing!
Meryl Streep

In these times there is a day for everything, thus I do not acknowledge them all. Yet, how could I pass up a shout out to National Pizza Day, I ask you? "Yes" I asked, are you thinking of your answer or simply ignoring me?! Moving on...

Pizza how do I love thee le me count the ways, you are my favorite food group. You and Mexican Food complete me in a way nothing else can.

Here to help us celebrate NPD is Meryl Streep, this image of her woofing down on a mighty slice made me smile, it's not your typical Meryl thing to do, ya know woofing. That's what makes it so damned amusing, and amused I am.

Well I guess that means I'm gonna have to celebrate accordingly, pizza for lunch it is!

Pizza, A Love Story

 PIZZA, A LOVE STORY

Coming to DVD and VOD on September 29th

"The film is not entirely about pizza; one can watch it and see Bechard laying out the history of his city, a cycle of immigration, assimilation, and gentrification that extends well beyond New Haven."    - E Film Critic

NEW HAVEN, CT: Pizza, A Love Story, filmmaker Gorman Bechard's 11 years-in-the-making homage to the world famous pizzerias Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana, Sally's Apizza, and Modern Apizza, is set for release on DVD and Video-On-Demand on September 29, 2020.

Called "An important film of staggering genius that needed to be made," Pizza, A Love Story has been selling out film festival screenings from Washington State to Alabama. Work on the film began in 2008, when Bechard and longtime friend Dean Falcone, both self-acknowledged pizza snobs, decided it was time to turn the camera on the only pizza that matters.

The film sets out to prove its tag line: "Pizza wasn't invented in New Haven. It was perfected there," by combining history, comedy, and some of the most mouth-watering footage you will ever see, into a film that also features cameos from actor Henry Winkler, musicians Lyle Lovett and Michael Bolton, Senator Chris Murphy, legendary concert promoter Jim Koplik, and dozens more. The film also includes the last known interview with Flora Consiglio of Sally's, filmed shortly before her passing in 2012.

"I learned long ago the best films are driven by passion," Bechard says, "and if there's one thing I truly believe it's that New Haven has the best pizza on this planet." And for the prolific filmmaker, it was nice to know, in interviewing so many food celebrities including Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports, that he was not alone in this belief.

Rounding out the pizza-loving duo is local historian Colin M. Caplan, who came on as a co-producer mid-way into the project, and has since written the acclaimed book Pizza in New Haven. "Colin was able to find a lot of the historical images that seemed to be out of our reach," explains Falcone. "He has a great knowledge of the early history of pizza."

The DVD, coming from the MVD Entertainment Group, features numerous extras, including the Q&A from opening night in New Haven with Bechard and his two producers.

On the same day, the prolific Bechard's newest animal documentary Seniors, A Dogumentary will also be released on DVD and VOD platforms. The documentary is a passionate portrayal of the vitality of senior dogs, and the people who cherish and protect them. Featuring the beloved Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary of Mount Juliet, Tennesse and Chaser the Border Collie, known as "The Smartest Dog In the World." Their stories
converge through the keen lens of famed photographer Jane Sobel Klonsky, author of the book Unconditional: Older Dogs, Deeper Love.

Gorman Bechard has directed 18 feature films including rock documentaries on The Replacements, Grant Hart, Archers of Loaf, Lydia Loveless, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, and soon Wilco's Jay Bennett. He has also directed the animal-rights film A Dog Named Gucci, which won the prestigious and rarely awarded ASPCA Media Excellence Award in 2015. He is the author of 5 novels, including the religious satire, The
Second Greatest Story Ever Told. He is the executive director/programmer of NHdocs: the New Haven Documentary Film Festival. He lives in New Haven, CT with his wife Kristine and their two dogs, Springsteen and Dylan.

TBT: Nerdy Boys Need Love Too!
Michael Shinafelt
So let's get something straight on this week's episode of As The Quarantine Turns. Things are never going back to "normal" thus it's time to get to work on your new "normal" - that's correct Minions now is the time to focus, not tune out. On that note, It's time!

All zoom and no play makes Jack a dull boy...

When all else fails ask yourself: What would Olivia Benson do?

It's all in the flow of the hips

Superheroes wear masks, and so do you

Dorinda Medley on RHONY: I almost became an alcoholic! Me watching: Almost?!

I know what you did last summer...f#cking nothing!!!

Finally saw Joker, I was sure I wasn't going to like it. I was wrong, it wasn't at all what I thought it would be. "Yes" that's a good thing 😉 Joaquin Phoenix deserved that Oscar!

In an ideal scenario the President of the United States and the worst human being in the world would be two different people.

Woman Crush of the Week - Lisa Rinna, because her Pandemic Tik Tok videos are off the hook!

This week's go to catch phrase: Morbidly Obese

I can't wait to be able to start licking things again!

As The Quarantine Turns
Michael Shinafelt
This weeks episode of As The Quarantine Turns clearly has me doing something many of you have more than likely done too. That's correct minions, it's called going through all of your old photos as you can see by this weeks image of myself, I have clearly been doing just that.

Once upon a time I used to bleach what was left of my hair blonde. I did have more fun, and it looked groovy, onward with this weeks tomfoolery buttercups.

It's Purple Monkey Time, woot!

Florida beaches are now open. I'll  just leave that here.

I can deal with your problem, or rock out. But I can't do both

The season finale of  Law and Order: SVU is on tonight, while I can't wait I am riding on a bummer there will be no other new ones until who knows when 😞

Four months in and 2020 feels like 2024

Some sweet news - See's Candy is slowly resuming operations

Now for some frivolous news - It's official I can't stand new addition to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Sutton Stracke, ugh, simply ugh!

Pets are smarter than people, because pets don't hate people over politics

Woman Crush of the Week - Fiona Apple, she made "Fetch" happen with her latest album Fetch The Bolt Cutters

Jack Nicholson recently turned 80, I love me some Jack, what a great actor

All I want is a Disco Stick

Yesterday was the day when people who were flying private roughly a month ago made social media posts about Earth Day

Also happened yesterday, the title of the Hunter S. Thompson novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas took on a whole new meaning. Think about it, but not too much...

Pizza is my latest food group during quarantine

Michael's Musings

From A Social Distance
Michael Shinafelt
Well March is finally over THAT was the longest month ever!!! I suspect since we are still on lock down until the end of April, March now has competition.

I, like you minions, can't wait until all this is over, so what have all of you been doing with your time, well here are some of the things I've been doing, texting and thinking...

For reasons only known to them HBO is playing a lot of old movies of late. Sometimes it's great when they play gems like Dangerous Liasons, but most of the time it's, meh

My Social Media game has improved of late, there's that

In today's episode of My Life With The Chill Pill Cult

Alyssa Milano is trending on Twitter at present. It's because she called out Bernie Sanders for putting his ego above the greater good. Wait, don't we already have a President that does that?!

If one is unhappy about the way they are depicted in a documentary, here's a hint - stop being a jerk

Life Hack: If you keep a glass of wine in each hand you can't touch your face...you're welcome!

Kenny Rogers checking out during the apocalypse is the most "know when to fold them" gangsta move I've ever seen

The things I will put up your a$$ if you don't STFU, luckily I have a lot of bananas

Woman Crush of the Week - Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame de Tourvel in Dangerous Liasons - Beautiful and heartbreaking.

See's Candy has halted production, the line has officially been crossed

Employees at Grocery Stores right now should get combat pay

Helpful Tip - remember Vegans are the closest thing to grass fed. Think about it, but not too much

#quaranpeen

Currently pizza is an essential food group for me

Seeing Red

Cuomo shows up and it's like “Ooooh, Daddy's here.” Newsome shows up and it's like “Ooooh, likable step-dad is here.”Trump shows up and it's like “Ooooh, racist grandpa took out his dick at the bus stop.” - John Fugelsang

Yeah, I wished I could take credit for this gem, but I acquiesce to comedian John Fugelsang. I follow Mr. Fugelsang on Twitter. Oddly getting my Tweet on has been a quite cathartic outlet for me during these trying times. It's the arena where I get truly politic and where brilliant minds like Fugelsang remind me not everyone is a MAGA Zombie Apocalypse wanna be. Moving on up, down and perpendicular...

Post quarantine will the producers of My 600 Pound Life find me? Or do I need to call them? How does this work???

BTW - how's your quarantine going? I actually took a nap yesterday to stop eating...

Vanderpump Rules is totally dreck this season

In these tough times there we can always count on the Taylor Swift/Kanye West/Kim Kardashian menage. They'll be there for you.

Raspberry Sherbet - that's all

My favorite refrain of late? "Where's the pizza???"

Stop getting creative with hard boiled eggs, I implore you!!!

Just Say: Le Woof

Woman Crush of the Week - Sia because I want to swing from the chandelier, damn it

You put your right foot in, you rock out with your c#ck out. Now THAT's the hokey pokey!!!

Doesn't it feel a lot better?

Fingers crossed Halloween Kills, the follow up to 2018's Halloween doesn't get lost in the shuffle due to the age of Corona. Hey, I have my priorities in tact.

When you are a gay man with the last name of Rimmer (true story)

Color Me Curious...
Micheal Shinafelt

“Curiouser and curiouser!” - Alice, Alice in Wonderland

Considering the state of the world we live in, I find this quote from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland quite appropo.

Sometimes you wake up and feel like you have fallen down a rabbit hole, and other days you feel like you are in another dimension. It's all how you process it that matters.

Enjoy your personal journey, you only live once minions...

Shout out to Lisa Rinna's Mom Lois on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Seriously that woman at 89 is amazing!

Claim your slut box

Flan

There's a new movement happening: C#nt Power!

I dream of egregious cookware

Turn the page for an alternate ending

Don't drop bombs (literally, metaphorically....etc.)

Please can it about Kylie Jenner's baby, seriously, you've all seen a baby before. Why is one from a celebrities vagina such a huge deal.

Congratulations to Erika Jayne on the launch of her book Pretty Mess

Sorry Jennifer Aniston

Hey Justin Theroux, I'm ready for our one night stand now

"When a rocket blows and, and everybody still wants to fly, Some say man ain't happy truly until a man truly dies, Oh why, oh why? Sign o' the times, unh" - Sign O' The Times, Prince

Wow! What a week this has been! First let me start things off by stating I finally followed through on something that I have always thought about doing but never have. I took a boxing class at Gold's Gym Hollywood this past Tuesday night with my friend Maresa Wickham

Let me say this about the experience, it was exhilarating! So much so that when I did yoga yesterday morning, it's held in the same room as boxing. I kept looking over at the punching bag off to the side wanting to go a few rounds with it.

There you have it, and here we go!

The Globe is really desperate for gossip. The headline I saw in the checkout line at my local Smart & Final read: "Dying Camilla Plans Her Own Funeral." Like no on has ever done THAT before!

Seriously Ryan Murphy? This past weeks American Horror Story: Cult featuring Charles Manson as part of the story line was on a lame par with the Valerie Solanas episode, and in bad taste in so many ways, I can't even!!!

Danica Roem is the first transgender woman to win a seat as an official in Virginia over opponent Bob Marshall who tried to pass laws discriminating against her. History and the greater good have been served.

It's raining diversity hallelujah!

Jenny Durkan an out Lesbian has been elected Mayor of Seattle. My home area, yay!

Byline: "Grey's Anatomy Will End if Ellen Pompeo Quits." I didn't know the show was still on, let alone it actually having an audience that tunes in.

Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire...
Mike Clifford
Mike Clifford's wonderful rendition & video of The Christmas Song drop this Wednesday November 15th. Keep up with Mike at: https://www.facebook.com/MikeCliffordsWonderfulWorld/

Daylight Savings Time ended this past weekend. Has anyone ever asked daylight if it really wants to be saved?

If you had a Guardian Angel what do you think they would do? What would mine do? Be spent 24/7

Speaking of 24/7 things: pizza, yes pizza you are always on my mind

Lyrics are really hard to decipher in songs you don't know. I swear there is a song I hear in Jessica's spin class @ Gold's Gym Hollywood that has the refrain: "When I put my titties on"

This week everything has been coming up Unicorns...go team uni!
