Hump Day & Chill

Do You Have Any Grey Poupon?

Look it's Norman Bates with two female dancers from the Ziegfeld Follies perhaps?  Or maybe not...

Whatever the case this whimsical photo was clearly taken on set during the making of Psycho. I'm not quite sure what would inspire this shot while filming a movie along these lines but I'm quite sure there is an interesting back story which I plan to research once I have more time to do so.

This being stated whimsy is the tone of today's Hump Day & Chill and whimsy there shall be all day and night until the clock strikes twelve.

Ram a lam a ding dong Minions!

Hump Day & Chill

Infamous
Janet Leigh

With the Oscars coming up this Sunday and everyone buzzing about Jamie Lee Curtis being nominated in the same category as her late Mom Janet Leigh (Best Supporting Actress for those not in the know) - well I couldn't help but think we all needed a collective Hump Day & Chill to Janet in her Oscar nominated, iconic role of Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho!!!

Even though Janet lost to Shirley Jones in Elmer Gantry, she actually won. Seriously think about it. No one really remembers Elmer Gantry or Jones' win, but everyone still talks about Psycho and the infamous shower scene to this day.

"Yes" Minions Janet Leigh is gangsta!

So I'm going to break out my copy of Psycho and Hump Day & Chill to this masterpiece of filmmaking, join me???

Hello October...

Alfred Hitchcock's
Psycho

I love the Fall and I especially love October as it is Spooky Season all month long! "Yes" this is truly the most wonderful time of the year (if you know, you know.)

Thus welcome October 1st, that makes it a mere 30 days until Halloween...Boo!!!

I am commemorating the first day of October 2022 with a montage of images from one of my favorite horror classics of all time Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.

This is a film I watch every year to celebrate the macabre and never tire of, I've definitely seen it South of twenty times.

What's that you ask? No I'm not going to get into why I will leave that up to more capable hands. The Minions behind Wikipedia, naturally...

Gird your loins and let's have some scary fun this month!!!

Hump Day & Chill

Anthony Perkins

While Mother's Day has come and gone I came across this quite enticing post focusing on Anthony Perkins and Psycho for said day, naturally on Tye Briggs Favorite Hunks & Other Things yesterday.

Thus today we are going to Hump Day & Chill to the late, great Mr. Perkins a guy who I admittedly had a crush on after my first viewing of, well, Psycho. What's that you say? How could I crush on Norman Bates? Well I was crushing on Perkins, hey he was one handsome dude, not to mention he imbued Norman with mega watt charm. How else could Norman get away with what he did for so long? I ask you, not sure why I did because I know you will not answer.

Apparently Tye dug up the only nude scene Anthony did (unfortunately it was only a booty shot) in a film called Ten Days Wonder. However there is some VPL in the piece that shows Mr. Perkins sporting a barely there bathing suit.

So here we are with another edition of Hump Day & Chill, you know you want to, so click on the link below and get to it Minions!!!

Michael's Musings

#TBT: Me In "The Summer Of Massacre"
Michael Shinafelt

Well Hello, and welcome to the nightmare known as 2020, my name is Michael, I'll be your Master of Ceremonies right here right now...."Yes" Minions I was in a horror movie once where I played a cop who expires in a violent way, because no one thought enough to renew him. It was called The Summer of Massacre, it was real and spectacular.

Only 16 more days until Halloween, I'd say send in the clowns, but they're already here. Let's have some fun, or not...

Remember when you used copious amounts of hair gel? Remember when people knew what copious meant?

'Cause the walls were shaking, The earth was quaking, My mind was aching, and we were making it and you, Shook me all night long! Having an AC/DC moment. You're welcome.

I would be seeing Halloween Kills this weekend, but thanks to a government that laughs at a pandemic. Yeah, there's that.

Sometime you gotta ask - Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?

Caught the horror movie The Strangers for the first time on cable the other day. Great, well made film, wrong timing for me to be finally seeing it given every thing going on in the world.

What is it going to take for you to see me as a virgin? I ask you, I am waiting

"Sometimes We All Go A Little Mad"
Michael Shinafelt
In case you don't wrap your head around my look and quote this week, it's all about me letting loose my inner Norman Bates courtesy of Sir Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Which just so happens to be one of my favorite films of all time.

It's only one week until Halloween minions, get in formation!

I'm gonna lick Satan's _______  fill in the blank. There is something you want from Satan I'm sure!

Mother's Day

Norman Bates
"Psycho"
Happy Mother's Day, to all of you out there who have a paternal role in a child's life. Because as Norman Bates says, well refer to the above image for that quote.

Yeah, I took a turn to the macabre a tad today, but not really, it's more of a nostalgia type of thing. You see there was this Psycho marathon on HBO recently and I sat through it, the danger of channel surfing.
Mother & Son
Norma & Norman Bates
Thus when Mother's Day 2019 arrived I thought it would be a nice twist to honor those out there who know their role by going a little mad, like we all do sometimes 😉

So Cheers to everyone out there who has one of the most important jobs in the world.

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

Michael's Musings

I'm Taking A Ride With...
Michael Shinafelt
It's Thursday and it's my time again. This week has been an interesting one. It made me contemplate about the things that drive me.

Well they are different from day to day, much like all of you I am sure. One day my focus is pushing myself further, other times it's lust, love, money or physical improvement. There is always of course peace with ones self which is the ultimate goal.

Oh, and sometimes I feel like Janet Leigh and go a little bit Psycho, and am the road to nowhere - hence the T-Shirt in the image this week. I know my skin images are much more popular on here, flesh will be returning next week. This week I decided to have some fun with an Instagram app this one.

Summary: Everything that drives me and all of you is random day to day, like this column. It's time let's play!

The Horror: Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho

Who Does Your Eyebrows?
Janet Leigh
Leaving one of the most indelible impressions of any horror film in history Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is a classic that has endured through the generations. It has spawned three sequels, one remake and a prequel TV series, Bates Motel which is coming up on it's fifth and final season.

Nothing had ever been seen on the silver screen before like Janet Leigh's shower scene death as Marion Crane. Not only was it shocking in it's brutality it was the first time a protagonist had been killed off in the first thirty minutes of a movie.

So for a Halloween treat I have decided to post a montage of images from one of my favorite horror movie deaths of all time, the "shower scene" from Psycho for you to savor.

It's Rapist Season With Margaret Cho

Getting Jizzy With It!
l-r: Rhonda Bernstein, Margaret & Me
Photo: Ken Phillips
Did the caption above sound somewhat irreverent? Well good! I caught all around awesome person and spirit animal Margaret Cho this past weekend, November 14th at The Wiltern to be exact, on her psyCHO tour. Refer to the photo above of me and my fellow Sagittarius engaging.

One of Margaret's hot topics in her show is rape & sexual abuse. She has been a victim of it and is speaking out, loud, and irreverent, of course.

If you have been the victim of any sexual violation, it can affect you in ways you never expected. Sometimes it isn't so much the act as it is the reaction to it from others in your life that can alter your being.

Moran, Margaret's Korean name, recently tackled this with a new song and video: I Want To Kill My Rapist.

Now this is not a literal thing, it's about killing the rapist, or sexual violator inside of you.

Yes, the "killing" part is a metaphor...or is it? Check out the video after the jump!

The Halloween Five

Satan In Disguise -
Michael Shinafelt

"Happy, Happy Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. Happy, Happy Halloween, Silver Shamrock!"

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a quite underrated movie. John Carpenter and Debra Hill were approached by Universal to do a third Halloween film after the studio picked up the sequel to the indie smash Halloween.

Their plan? To do a franchise under the Halloween banner every year, with a different theme. Turns out the public demanded and only had love for Michael Myers. Gotta give those two credit though for trying to be innovative and fun!

Which brings me to the theme of this year's Season of the Witch post. I am going to give you five of my favorite fright films, in no particular order, with the exception of number one. I bet you already know what that is...
Halloween
Always Number 1!
1) Halloween - This is my one and only when it comes to sheer horror. I can not count how many times I have seen it and how much I love it! It was the first horror film my Father took me to, and it scared the shit out of me. It is still under my skin to this day, even though I know what's coming. Jamie Lee Curtis rules!

2) Excision - Teen angst, domineering mothers, delusional aspirations of being a world class surgeon.
This psychological gore fest is a brilliant feature debut from Director/Writer Richard Bates, Jr. It also features two great performances from AnnaLynne McCord and Traci Lords.

3) Psycho - Like mother like daughter. Janet Leigh shocked the world of cinema by appearing in Alfred Hithcock's then explicit and never seen nothing like it thriller Psycho. Janet as you may or may not know was the mother of future Scream Queen and Halloween star, Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie still holds up today as a master class in film making and what an intelligent slasher film could and should be.
4) The Hunger - was anything sexier than Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie slashing their prey's throats with an ankh and drinking their blood at the height of orgasm? Well, one more thing in this awesome vampire flick was, the sex scene between Deneuve turning Susan Sarandon into her latest immortal fling. Tony Scott's best.

5) Cat People - No, not the original in 1942. That one I never saw the big deal about. But the re-imagining of it by auteur Paul Schrader. While the film is more of an erotic fantasy. It is peppered with enough horror elements and violence to really set it above the cut. With Malcom McDowell at his freaky best and Nastassja Kinski doing what she does best...meow, sex kitten.

While these are not the only Holiday Flicks I love, they are the cream of the crop to me. With John Carpenter's Halloween always remaining #1 in my blackened heart.

Happy Halloween! Until next year...

The Horror! With Author M.E. Franco

Sign It In Blood...M.E!

Some Of The M.E. Franco Oeuvre
It's that time again, "Yes" it's a yearly Halloween tradition. You know, the time I get together with fellow horror (and vampire) lover author M.E. Franco and have some irreverent Halloween fun?!
M.E. after all wrote a hugely popular supernatural series of books referred to as the "Dion" series. Among other things that are literary. So let's get to it, cut a Jack-O-Lantern there's nothing to it, shriek!
MS: M.E., are you a good witch or a bad witch?

ME: Depends on my mood. When I'm a good witch, I'm very bad, and when I'm a bad witch, I'm very good.
MS: Would you check into The Cortez on "American Horror Story?"
ME: Absolutely! (I know exactly which room you can stay in BTW)
Join Me, M.E. - Sincerely, Matt Bomer
MS: If Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer wanted to have a three way with you would you go for it, even though you would end up dead after orgasm?
ME: When it comes to the horror genre, this would definitely be my preferred way to go. Way better than getting shanked by Michael Myers. And who could say no to Matt Bomer? (hint: not me)
Ewwwwwww! Devil Germs!
MS: Which Scream Queen would you not want to be?
ME: I'm a bad horror fan. I haven't seen this show yet, but I'm going to catch up! I wouldn't want to be the one that dies though. I want to be the one who survives and writes the best selling book about the experience along with the movie rights of course.
MS: How would you most like to off a member of a sorority?
ME: Hemlock poisoning would be a very Greek thing to do for irony, but not nearly gory enough. Recreating the shower scene in Psycho? Now that would be classic.
Pinhead: Let's Go Shopping At The Pleasure Chest
MS: Pinhead from "Hellraiser" asks you to go shopping for sex toys, do you go with him?
ME: I'd love to. I think I could learn a lot
Let's Do The Time Warp Again!
MS: Have you ever done the Time Warp?
ME: Only on rainy Saturday nights.
MS: What creature of the night would you most want to touch you when wanna be dirty?
ME: You know I'm a vampire girl!
Hey, M.E.
Gerard Butler Here For All Your Vampire Needs
MS: Name one thing a supernatural character in one of your books would never be without.
ME: A stiff dagger. (cough, cough, no comment)
MS: Have you ever taken a ride on the Highway to Hell, if so describe it.
ME: What happens on the Highway to Hell, stays on the Highway to Hell. I'll take that to my grave!

Jamie Lee Curtis Goes "Psycho"

Like Mother, Like Daughter
Jamie Lee Curtis & Janet Leigh

OK, everyone knows I am a HUGE horror fan! So it stands to reason I am quite excited about the premiere of Scream Queens (not Screaming Queens) September 22nd on FOX

A main attraction for this horror junkie being Scream Queen Supreme Jamie Lee Curtis. Jamie was in one of my all time favorite slasher/suspense flicks John Carpenter's Halloween, and as you recall followed that up with a bunch of others in the 1980's such as Prom Night and Terror Train.

It was most likely her destiny to fill the role since her Mother, Janet Leigh was one of the original Scream Queens when she appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho. Another of my favorite things!

You know the movie where the female lead gets killed off in the first fifteen minutes of footage, yeah that one.

Well Jamie Lee recently Tweeted this image with the caption: "Recreated Mom's PSYCHO shower scene 4 a special ep of @ScreamQueens,"

Yes!!! I know where I will be this coming Tuesday the 22nd at 9 pm!

Margaret Cho Is psyCHO

MARGARET CHO ANNOUNCES U.S. FALL DATES FOR
THE “psyCHO” TOUR
PRE-SALE TICKETS ON SALE MAY 13 & 14
PUBLIC ON-SALE BEGINS FRIDAY, MAY 15

Margaret Cho is finally copping to something that we Cho Ho's have known for years, that she is psyCHO. Just the way we like her!

Three time Grammy and Emmy nominee, comedian Margaret Cho has announced she will embark on a national U.S. run  in support of The psyCHO Tour this fallMargaret will hit various cities including Los Angeles, Chicago and her hometown of San Francisco before embarking on a string of European dates this winter.

Margaret has been developing brand new material over the last several months and said: “I'm so thrilled to announce that I will be back out on the road. This show is about insanity, and about the anger I feel about everything happening in the world right now, from police brutality to racism to the rising tide of violence against women. It makes me all so crazy - hence the title: “The psyCHO Tour” - there is no “I” in team but there is a “CHO” in psycho". When men go off on something - they are "passionate" and "driven" and when women go off on something we are "hysterical" and "crazy". I'm trying to bring some joy to the hysteria and insanity.

From singlehood to Boko Haram to Bruce Jenner’s transition to female empowerment, Margaret tackles difficult subjects with sensitivity and razor sharp insight. A pioneer amongst women in comedy, Margaret doesn’t take anything for granted“It’s a wonderful thing to be known as a ‘safe haven’ for people who feel disenfranchised. The audience at my shows don’t necessarily consider themselves traditional comedy fans. I seem to be a secure alternative for people who don’t think they’re being represented in society. They come because my point of view satisfies a lot of what needs to be said out there, and that makes me really proud.”

A big part of Margaret’s show are tributes to her “father in comedy,” Robin Williams and her “mother in comedy,” Joan Rivers, who passed away within a month of one another. Margaret was very close to both of them; her friendship with Robin encouraged her to start the #BeRobin campaign to raise awareness and funds for the homeless community. Her friendship with Joan reinforced Margaret’s desire to remain fearless.
