Black Celebration

Happy Halloween Minions! I had a Black Celebration yesterday in honor of today. "Yes" I finally viewed the slasher film that heavily influenced everything from the original Halloween to When A Stranger Calls...Black Christmas!

Please don't confuse this 1974 original with any of the lame re-dos. This is one good slash fest with very little slashing, but heavy on the creepy atmosphere, not to mention an even creepier killer who has a thing for making obscene phone calls to the women in the sorority he is stalking.

This macabre outing was directed by Bob Clark who would go on to direct another Christmas movie the classic A Christmas Story. Hey, he's got a Santa fetish, or something I guess.

It stars Oliva Hussey of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet fame along with Margot Kidder best know as Lois Lane in the Superman movie.

Throw that in with some top notch camera work that set the standard for the slasher genre and well you've got one bangin' Christmas present I'll say! In fact I just did!

Let Christmas come a little early and treat yourself to this movie for Halloween...Boo!

Film Buff Friday: Alice, Sweet Alice

About that time Brooke Shields got offed in a horror movie...
A young Brooke Shields meets an untimely end in this religious-themed proto slasher par excellence from director Alfred Sole. On the day of her first communion, young Karen (Brooke Shields) is savagely murdered by an unknown assailant in a yellow rain mac and creepy translucent mask. But the nightmare is far from over - as the knife-wielding maniac strikes again and again, Karen's bereaved parents are forced to confront the possibility that Karen's wayward sister Alice might be the one behind the mask. Bearing influences from the likes of Hitchcock, the then-booming Italian giallo film and more specifically, Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now, Alice, Sweet Alice is an absolutely essential - if often overlooked - entry in the canon of 1970s American horror.

The Horror!

Will The Real Sarah Paulson Please Fall In Line?

Well it looks like American Horror Story favorite Sarah Paulson is sitting season 9 out. The upcoming season is titled 1984 and takes place in a summer camp. The teaser gives slasher flick vibes.

Given how pitiful last season, Apocalypse was I can understand Paulson sitting on the sidelines for this one. Although a throwback to 80's slice em' and dice em' terror seems like a fertile idea.

However I sincerely doubt the low quality of last season is the reason she is sitting out.It seems she has a very full plate of projects at present including a new FX series opposite Cate Blanchett titled Mrs. America. I will for sure tune into that simply to see those two power house actresses square off of with each other.

Whatever the case, this will be the first Sarah less AHS season. Hey TV series are like people, they need to, and should evolve.

Jamie Lee Curtis Goes "Psycho"

Like Mother, Like Daughter
Jamie Lee Curtis & Janet Leigh

OK, everyone knows I am a HUGE horror fan! So it stands to reason I am quite excited about the premiere of Scream Queens (not Screaming Queens) September 22nd on FOX

A main attraction for this horror junkie being Scream Queen Supreme Jamie Lee Curtis. Jamie was in one of my all time favorite slasher/suspense flicks John Carpenter's Halloween, and as you recall followed that up with a bunch of others in the 1980's such as Prom Night and Terror Train.

It was most likely her destiny to fill the role since her Mother, Janet Leigh was one of the original Scream Queens when she appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho. Another of my favorite things!

You know the movie where the female lead gets killed off in the first fifteen minutes of footage, yeah that one.

Well Jamie Lee recently Tweeted this image with the caption: "Recreated Mom's PSYCHO shower scene 4 a special ep of @ScreamQueens,"

Yes!!! I know where I will be this coming Tuesday the 22nd at 9 pm!

"Mutilator" Monday

You have heard of Manic Monday, Monday Funday, Monday the beginning of the weekly grind, today July 13th is now "Mutilator" Monday...Yes, I am a horror fan!

The Mutilator - Dual Format DVD & Blu-ray - ORDER HERE - Out September 29th!

Although the slasher film was in decline by the mid-1980s, there were still some grisly delights to be had... and they don't come much grislier than writer-director Buddy Cooper's sickening stalk-and-slash classic The Mutilator! When Ed receives a message from his father asking him to go and lock up the family's beach condo for the winter, it seems like the perfect excuse for an alcohol-fuelled few days away with his friends. After all, his dad has forgiven him for accidentally blowing mom away with a shotgun several years ago... hasn't he? But no sooner are the teens on the island than they find themselves stalked by a figure with an axe (and a hook, and an onboard motor) to grind... Originally entitled Fall Break (watch out for the incongruous theme song of the same name!), The Mutilator has earned a reputation amongst horror fans as one of the 'holy grails' of 80s splatter mayhem due to its highly inventive (and not to say, decidedly gruesome) kill sequences, courtesy of FX wizard Mark Shostrom (Videodrome, Evil Dead II). Finally making its long-awaited bow in High-Definition, The Mutilator has returned to terrorize a whole new generation of horror fans!

Adam Levine Is A Stalker

Adam Levine & His Wife, Model Behati Prinsloo
Give Us A Halloween Treat
"Baby I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals" - "Animals" Maroon 5

That's right, Adam Levine is going as a stalker for Halloween in the video for the latest Maroon 5 single: Animals.

His costume of choice is quite controversial apparently among organizations that are advocates for stopping violence against women.

Everyone has the right to their opinion, and here's mine. Having seen the video and being a fan of horror, to me this is pretty standard fare and no big deal.

Personally I find Anaconda by Nicki Minaj or Robin Thicke's date rape song Blurred Lines way more offensive and degrading to women than Animals.

Animals is essentially a short slasher film about a stalker that has premiered during the perfect time of the year, Halloween. Translation, it's a great video and brilliant marketing, nothing more.

Sorry if I do not share in the outrage over something that is seen in TV shows and movies all the time.

I love the video, it's creepy, sexy and has great imagery, everything a gritty horror movie should be! Check it out below!
